C&O Canal & Green Ridge State Forest - Hiking, Biking, Hunting
Across river is the C & O Canal Tow Path and the 47,560 acre Green Ridge State Forest. Four miles north, on the tow path, is the Paw Paw Tunnel, a ¾ mile stretch of the canal that passes through a mountain (bring your flashlight!). - Green Ridge State Forest is open 24 hours a day, year-round. Green Ridge State Forest headquarters is open during office hours Monday through Friday. Weekend office hours vary, depending on the season.
- From Washington, D.C./Baltimore:(Travel time approximately 2 hours.) Take I-70 west to I-68 west. Take exit #64 (M.V. Smith Road). Make a right onto M.V. Smith Road. The Headquarters Drive is on the right after crossing I-68.
- From Pittsburgh: (Travel time approximately 3 1/2 hours.) Take I-79 to I-68 east. Take exit #64 (M.V. Smith Road). Take a right onto M.V. Smith Road. The Headquarters Drive is immediately on the right
Geocaching
Geocaching is a form of outdoor recreation that involves the use of a Global Positioning System (GPS) and other navigational techniques to hide and/or find containers called “caches”. There are many approved official caches located within Green Ridge. Information on the official Caches located on the state forest can be found at www.geocaching.com. Contact the Green Ridge office for information on applying for permission to place a new cache on the forest.
Green Ridge Driving Tour
44.3 miles – 3 hours
There is an established self-guided driving tour available at the Green Ridge Headquarters (see directions below). This tour begins and ends at the Headquarters covering approximately 45 miles. The tour includes interpretation of management of the forest while directing users to the scenic overlooks and other unique sites throughout the forest. This tour takes approximately 3 hours to complete. That does not include the time it takes to get to headquarters from Three Otters.

Eidolon Nature Preserve - http://www.potomacaudubon.org/eidolon
Within a 25 minutes drive of Three Otters, the the 354 acre Eidolon Nature Preserve is located along the summit of Sideling Hill, west of Berkeley Springs, WV. The property was owned for many years by Louis and Marguerite Zapoleon. Mrs. Zapoleon willed it to the Nature Conservancy when she passed away in 2003 with instructions that it be used as a place to promote greater understanding and appreciation of the natural world. Marguerite wrote a book about their times at Eidolon - Everyone Needs a Mountain, which was published in 1985.
Paw Paw Frisbee Golf
Just a short drive from Three Otters you'll find Paw Paw Frisbee Golf, with two challenging and spectacular 18 hole courses..
Description: Situated on 2 ridges with a steep slope, mostly pasture, some tightly wooded, with water hazards and daunting length. 100-year old barn serves as clubhouse. Private: $5/fee (honor system).

Cox Campground, Great Cacapon, WV
About 20 minutes away you'll find our neighbors and friends at Cox Campground. They offer a small general store, wireless internet access, and even a little petting zoo. If you want to come to Three Otters, but we are too small for your group or you have a large RV, visit Cox Campground. They have hook ups, water, and plenty of room for larger groups. They even have cabins, cottages, and RVs for rent.
Berkeley Springs, WV
Just 45 minutes away, Berkeley Springs is a lovely town with great art, concerts in the park, tasty restaurants, health spas, and the world’s cutest, most reasonably priced movie theater - The Star Theater - that serves popcorn with real butter. Berkeley Springs is also home to the Morgan Arts Council Ice house where you can take in a show, enjoy a class, or see local art displays. They also have wonderful summer programs for kids.
